Today we will again have fun with a really easy cake, which was prepared a long time ago and I found in my old culinary notebook without any explanatory steps for preparation – only with the ingredients. It seems that most of the recipes were once only with the ingredients, because everyone knew how to prepare them and did not need much explanation. My favourite expressions “flour to medium soft dough” and “bake / bake in a moderate oven”. They were a complete mystery to me. Very often the flour was even missing in the products, because it implicips… 🙂 But there are no question how to…

    Good morning, chefs! Today I will show you a recipe that my husband prepared – POLENTA WITH BACON AND CHEESE. He is a big fan of polenta and often makes it at home, and I play the role of an assistant – from time to time I replace him in the stirring and carry out orders :).     Oven Baked Sauerkraut with Rice and Potatoes

    After yesterday’s trip to France with the wonderful home-made croissants, let’s return to our homeland and prepare something that originates from here, with sauerkraut – SOURKRAUT WITH RICE AND POTATOES. And despite the spring temperatures outside, let’s not forget that it’s still February. Here is how I prepared this delicious Bulgarian variation – the way my grandmother prepared it:

    Today we will prepare a dish from the real winter kitchen, namely – a dish with sauerkraut – ROYAL DOLMA. I love classic dolmas with minced meat and rice, but the royal dolma is not accidentally called that way. So few products, so much taste! Let’s prepare them before the end of winter and the sauerkraut is over! 😉 Enjoy! Here is the recipe:

    Chopped “fried” salad with roasted peppers and beans

    Of all the delicacies, I love beans and roasted red peppers the most. And both together – you get a dish just to lick your fingers. This is a salad recipe (maybe an appetizer) and I present it to you the way mom prepares it. The idea is not just to mix roasted peppers with boiled beans. There are some tricks that make it far tastier – first chop and then “fry” with hot oil. Try it and you will see what I am talking about… Here is the recipe:

    Mekitsi (fried dough buns) with lemonade, a recipe of grandma Elenka

    There is no way that I show you Grandma Elenka’s Walnut buns, Grandma Elenka’s Langidi, without showing you Grandma Elenka’s MEKITSI. These ones here are with lemonade and are super delicious! When I was preparing them, I cut the ingredients in half from her recipe, which I had copied in my notebook, and still I fried only one part, and with the remained dough and I made a bread. I wonder for whom she cooked so much that the ingredients in the recipes are like for a whole regiment. Well, it is no suprise, remembering how many children we used to gather in the summer in our village – cousins…

I’m Annie – a food lover enchanted by the call of home cooked food. As a child, I pulled pie crusts with my grandmother and held onto Mom’s stand mixer while the sponge bubbled in the bowl. My work in real life has nothing to do with cooking – I am an economist by education, but almost my life I deal with all financial risk insurance.
