Classic scones
SCONES! They are something like small buns or cookies, which are a typical English tea snacks. The classic ones are traditionally served with a kind of thick high-fat cream, along with butter, honey or jam. They are of Irish origin, but some sources say they come from Scotland. The name comes from Danish and means “pure, fine white bread”, and in Scottish it means “crush”. They are usually made from wheat flour, wholegrain flour or oatmeal, with baking powder (or baking soda) and baked on large flat pans. They can be sweet or salty, you can add cheese, fresh or frozen fruits, nuts, honey, maple syrup, chocolate, olives, sun-dried tomatoes,…

Mekitsi (fried dough buns) with lemonade, a recipe of grandma Elenka
There is no way that I show you Grandma Elenka’s Walnut buns, Grandma Elenka’s Langidi, without showing you Grandma Elenka’s MEKITSI. These ones here are with lemonade and are super delicious! When I was preparing them, I cut the ingredients in half from her recipe, which I had copied in my notebook, and still I fried only one part, and with the remained dough and I made a bread. I wonder for whom she cooked so much that the ingredients in the recipes are like for a whole regiment. Well, it is no suprise, remembering how many children we used to gather in the summer in our village – cousins…

Langidi – quick breakfast, recipe from grandmother Elenka
Good Saturday morning! Let’s have breakfast 🙂 Today I suggest you to prepare a quick and delicious breakfast. The recipe is from a long time ago, from my grandmother. The same grandmother Elenka from the village of Vardim, Svishtov region, who also made the Walnut buns that I showed you some time ago. Come on, roll up your sleeves and enjoy these LANGIDI. I still dodn’t understand where this name came from and why they were called that way. My personal explanation is that they look like small tongues and come from the word langue (French) or lingua (Latin). This is hardly true, but the important thing in this case is…

Milinki – fluffy cheese buns
My husband Theo was in the kitchen again. This time he performed with these fluffy cheese buns we call MILINKI. I, of course, helped a little, but only in shaping the balls and baking. Because whenever we bake something in the oven, he asks me “How many minutes should I bake?”, and my answer always is “I don’t know, until it’s done!” 🙂 Well, with such a team the success is sure! Look at the recipe and have fun! 🙂

Fried toasts with eggs and yoghurt
I suppose you haven’t had breakfast yet … If so, I have an idea for you – FRIED TOASTS WITH EGGS AND YOGHURT – a favourite breakfast since childhood! I don’t remember how my mom made them, I think she only fried them with eggs, but after starting living together with my husband, he told me that the bread slices could also be fried by adding some yogurt. I was quite skeptical, but since then I only prepare them this way because they become soft inside and crispy on the outside. After that I saw many other ways of cooking, but my favourite way remains. Serve the way you like…
