Milinki – fluffy cheese buns
My husband Theo was in the kitchen again. This time he performed with these fluffy cheese buns we call MILINKI. I, of course, helped a little, but only in shaping the balls and baking. Because whenever we bake something in the oven, he asks me “How many minutes should I bake?”, and my answer always is “I don’t know, until it’s done!” 🙂 Well, with such a team the success is sure! Look at the recipe and have fun! 🙂

Small Cheese Pies on Sandwich Toaster
If you want to make super crunchy, delicious and very interesting small cheese pies for breakfast, make them on a sandwich toaster. Put the stuffing, wrap as you like, close the lid and bake for a few minutes. The result is surprisingly tasty! I saw the idea from the culinary site https://zanaeblogcook.blogspot.com/. Try it at home! Enjoy! 🙂

Makarina Banitsa or “bathed” Cheese Pie (recipe from Vardim, Svishtov region)
We are used to eat this cheese pie with pleasure every time we visit our relatives for Christmas in my mother’s native village – Vardim, on the Danube, 10 km. from the town of Svishtov towards the town of Ruse. Apart from the second largest island on the Danube River after Belene Island (Vardim Island), the village is also known for its Banitsa Makarina. I have no idea where the name or the recipe comes from. I have also not heard of it being prepared in other regions of Bulgaria. It is extremely soft and tasty and its preparation is very similar to the lasagna crusts. Whether it is a…

Sorrel porridge
After the abundant amount of lamb meat on St. George’s Day, it’s time to eat something fasting. Here is an old recipe for a sorrel porridge, which you can prepare with all kinds of greens herbs. I borrowed the recipe from the culinary internet site do-kalisto.blogspot.com. Fast and tasty! Enjoy! 🙂

Lamb pluck with rice
This dish is a favorite at home. We prepare it often, not only on holidays. When I take my daughter to folk dances, there is an Arab food store opposite the school. I often buy the meat from there. Now, of course, at this strange time, I don’t take her to dance, but there was a lamb pluck set in the supermarket across the street. And on the day after on St. George’s Day I’ll cook it again. You try it too! Here’s my recipe:

Beans with pork breasts in a ceramic pot
Generally, I always cook beans on Saturdays and Sundays. Not because it’s complicated, it is cooked by itself, it just takes a long time. Especially if I decide to cook it in a ceramic pot. But now with this home office there is no particular difference. I put it in the oven in the morning and for lunch we had the most perfect Bulgarian meal. And here you go – easy for the quarantine dish, and such a scent is floating around in the air that some of your neighbors might ring the doorbell and you might have unexpected guests 🙂 Come on, open the cupboard, take out the beans…

Pide (flat bread) with aromatic spices
Of all the type of food I like the most pastry – breads, cakes, pitas, cakes and other tasty temptations. I love not so much eating them, but cooking them. There is magic in mixing some water and flour and produce such beauties. Not to mention what kind of meditative power it brings to dip your hands in the dough and blend into the connection between the human soul and the soul of the bread… Probably that’s why sometimes the bread is better, and sometimes not so much… Today I am going to show you a very good recipe for PIDE WITH AROMATIC SPICES from the book “The Favorite from…

Monastery pork roast
A very interesting recipe for me! I saw it presented by Ivan Zvezdev as an old Bulgarian recipe from the Bachkovo Monastery. And since I can definitely call myself now a fan of the old and forgotten Bulgarian dishes, I decided to introduce it to you … Very easy, and suitable for beginner cooks! And super delicious! Enjoy! 🙂

Oven baked rice with apples
Today I am going to present you an old recipe from our mothers and grandmothers. It does not look much like modern recipes, but it brings us back to those times when women tried to create something delicious from simple products they had in the cupboard and the cellars. Here is one of them. It was very interesting for me to find out and prepare this recipe. Personally, I would mix all the products without making them in layers. It is easier and would give better flavor to the rice. Or at least I think so;) The recipe is from Penka Mihova’s book “When the Soul Eats.” Enjoy! 🙂
